Invalid Destination URL Problem in Display Placements

Every once in a spell I come across a timely and relevant article on web site that would make sense to ad to a campaign. Most of the time it accepts the URL but every so often it rejects the URL as being improperly formatted.

Now, I read this thread:  https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/Advanced-Features/URL-Exclusion-ERROR/td-p/62186

And it seems to be pretty spot on about the amount of sub directories the URL contains and or determining the literal page ending extension (asp, html etc etc)

But I am wondering if others have this issue and have found any better solutions?

It's not always possible to add the page extension.

So, looking at the image example with target placement URL- http://jacksonville.com/business/2014-12-19/story/high-infection-rates-plague-four-jacksonville-area... any ideas on how to add this? Clearly it is in the display network.

Is the only solution to target http://jacksonville.com/business/ AND use keywords?

Thanks in advance. Tcannot-ad-this-url-placements.jpg

Hi talexander,

Yes currently there is a limit to the sub-domains that can be added to an exclusion URL. If you find that certain placements aren’t performing as you’d like, here are some possible work arounds:

1. Switch from 'Keyword Contextual Targeting' to 'Display Select Keywords' to minimize irrelevant matches.

2. Try topic exclusion

Hope that helps. Anything else worked for anyone- please share here.

Thanks,
