Has anyone found a way to stop ads appearing on Nigerian websites?

My client has campaigns targetted to the UK, but due to huge numbers of impressions on Nigerian-related sites, is being swamped with non-converting enquiries from Nigeria. I have tried to exclude Nigeria, but so far without success. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Emma G,

Welcome to the community..!

Hope you are using two campaigns targeting search network and display network separately.

And I assume you are talking about your Google Display network campaigns and you want to stop your client's campaign from appearing Nigerian related websites.

I will suggest three things.

1. Find individual nigerian sites and add them to your placement excluded list.

Placement performance report - http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2404178?hl=en

Excluding sites - http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2454012?hl=en

2. Use Topic exclusing and exclude - Nigeria

Select the campaign > Go to Display Network tab > Exclude > Topics > Western Africa >Nigeria

Exclude pages about a specific topic - http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2456096

3. Use Interest category exclusion

Select the campaign > Go to Display Network tab > Exclude > Interest & remarketing > Western Africa >Nigeria

Exclude categories - http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2454012

Hope this helps,

Deepak

Hi Emma G and welcome to the Community.  If you're using a Search Campaign, you may find it useful to check your Campaign settings for Location options (advanced).  By default, AdWords sets targets as "People in, searching for or viewing pages about my targeted location" which means people outside the UK who are searching on subjects related to the UK may still see your Ads.  This can be useful if you're a hotel in the UK as you want your Ads to still be seen by people looking to stay here for a holiday but in your case it may be the cause of the problem.

Try changing this setting to the second option "People in my targeted location".  This should limit the display of your Ads only to people actually in the UK, not outside it as well.
