Grouping search terms - build broad negative list

[ Edited ]

is there any tool that will group my search terms together to help me build a list of broad negative keywords.

For example, if I have 20 terms that include the word "cheap" plus a few other terms, and in my case the word cheap doesn't work, but the waste is spread across the 20 different terms, I would need a tool that can figure out the wasted broad terms to exclude.

Thanks for your help

Hi Joel,

I am not sure if I understand your question. You can add cheap, cheapest in negative broad to avoid any term that has these terms to trigger your ad.

Please explain little more if this is not what you looking for.

Thanks

of course I can. sorry for not being clear enough. my question is if there's a tool or other way to sort of pick up which broad modifiers are bad and should be added to the negative list.

point is, if "cheap" would be an exact match keyword causing me to lose a significant amount of money, I would spot it easily, but since it's sometimes spread over many many broad terms; it's hard to spot.

What I'm looking for is sort of a tool to group multiple keywords together into a singular terms.

Thanks for your help

Hi Joel,

You can download the search term report and then using text filter within the excel sheet as text contains.. "cheap" (or any word)

This script might help. It breaks down your search terms report by individual words, so you could see if certain terms cost a lot of money without converting. Looks like it also gives you a breakdown by search term length (i.e., 2 word searches vs. 4 words searches, etc.).

Thanks Michael for pointing me to that link, but unfortunately that script as is; is no longer supported, I don't know how to get it to work.
on a different script from that same provider http://www.brainlabsdigital.com/blog/adwords-script-real-time-position-bidding/ they updated "KeywordText’ column has been replaced by ‘Criteria’" but that single change doesn't work on the one we're looking at.

Ah, that is unfortunate. I haven't used the script myself, I just remembered reading about it. Looks like the data is pulled using AdWords Query Language, so that's where you'll need to find the updated calls.

Here is the documentation for AWQL:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/awql#service-calls

Here is a list of all the available reports, so you can see what calls are still valid and which need updating:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports

That page also includes a link to the migration guide, which may help you identify the changes quicker:
https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/migration/v201603

Hope that helps!

Will take a look. Thanks

I found that optmyzr.com offers something close to what I'm looking for it's a paid tool and is in beta, and it doesn't allow you to filter by campaign, goes on account level only. #worthless
