Hi, I just wanted to confirm one thing whether its a right or wrong approach -

In campaign settings I have selected UK as my targeted country; But I also want to bid more on people from London, So I added London in location and increased the bid by some percentage for it. Will this work to improve the ad position in London?

(Only expert's advice please: I observed few people reply just to increse their level)

Thanks

Hi Rohit,

So thourgh Location bid adjustments one can increase or decrease bids for selected location IPs. Its basically one more layer above your campaign targetting,

So in your case your campaign will still target all UK but for London IP your bid will be increased according to your bid adjustment. This may improve your position depending on the auction.

Hey Rohit,

According to me it's redundant. With Selecting UK you are already setup your ad for 111,000,000 ppl (estimate), I dont think you need to London for it. Because the reach value of London (36,300,000) is already calculated in UK reach value.

My Thoughts.

Thank you for your reply Kandarp, I did that because I wanted to bid more on London. How can I do that if this method is not perfect.

Hi Rohit,

Geo targeting is set at the campaign level. If the same campaign has the UK AND specific states selected then that will make no difference / the state selection is redundant.

However, if an account has multiple campaigns, one of which covered the UK and others specific states, then ideally these specific states should be excluded in the general campaign.

Hi Rohit,

You're right. If you include a country and a city within that country as a location target, you can then set up a bid adjustment on that city.

The adjusted bid would apply for all users in that city and the regular bid would apply to users outside of it.

In general, AdWords uses the bid adjustment of the most granular location target that a user is a part of
