Emails opt-out link in Customer Match setup

I'm excited about the Customer Match capability. On the "Create a customer emails list" page, https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6276125, step #8 says:

"Enter an email opt-out link. Provide a link to the page where people can manage their preferences for receiving email from you, including opting out of any email lists they may be subscribed to."

Can anyone point me to an advertiser's web page that has this kind of link? I'd be interested to see what the link text says and what page it leads to. Thanks.

Here's an example of a page that contains information on how people can opt out of your emails: http://www.nfpa.org/standard_items/privacy-policy. Note the wording in the section that begins "Customer email lists." I believe a page with similar wording will satisfy Google's requirements. You simply need to enter the url of your page when you're setting up Customer Match.

Essentially, you need a Privacy Policy page on your website that tells your visitors how to opt out of emails. If I'm mistaken in this, I hope someone will correct me.

PS - I don't have any connection to the NFPA. I'm just using their web page as an example.

in case you missed it, the url provided above should not contain a (.) dot at the end:
http://www.nfpa.org/standard_items/privacy-policy

Is the opt-out page the same one as the one people would use to unsubscribe from newsletters? Or does it have to be one created just for that purpose?

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Sarah,

Yes, that's right--the opt-out page link should link to the page where people can opt-out of your email list.

Hope this helps!
Cassie

Hi

I can´t find that information about link for opt-out in the help center file anymore (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6276125?hl=en)

[edit] Also, I can´t see a space to add a link to page where they can opt-out when I create list.

Has that requirement been removed by Google?

Hey David,

The opt-out link is no longer required, but the team is currently exploring other ways for users to decide which ads they see. Just like before, users can always block ads they don't like, or visit their ad setting to control the ads they see on Google sites.

Going forward, you do not need to provide the opt-out link, and any opt-out link already provided will not be shown on Customer Match campaigns.

Hope this clears things up a bit!

Cassie
