Dynamic Remarketing Automatic Feed - Update Error with Action Column

Hi, I've set up my custom product feed and I have a url where I have scheduled an automatic update every 6 hours.

Unfortunately I can't automatically update because I get this error:

Input error
Your data set or feed wasn't updated because the spreadsheet you're trying to upload includes an "Action" column. Choose "Update" (not "Replace") if you'd like to include an "Action" column, or remove your "Action" column and try again.
No changes

The procedure we follow is correct because we do not want to dump and recreate the product feed (in this case we should upload a file without the action column); we just want to update the existing feed removing sold-out items and adding new ones (so, according to Google guides, the action column is mandatory).

Here is the first two rows of our feed:

id

id2

Item title

Final URL

Image URL

Item subtitle

Item description

Contextual keywords

Beach Volley scontato

Could you please help me understand what we're doing wrong? thanks!

Anyone with a possible solution? We're following instructions by the letter but we still get this error.

the main difference between a replace and an update of the business-data-feed,
is that missing rows in a replace, will delete those items from the business-data --
whereas, missing rows in an update, will not change the existing business-data.

also, if any columns (headings/attributes) change, an update is required.

for a refresh (edit) of the business-data-feed (spreadsheet) --

selecting "replace" for the upload indicates:
(a) no columns (headings) have changed -- columns cannot change;
(b) most items will be identical to existing items -- stats are preserved;
(c) existing items may be changed;

(d) new rows (items) will be added to the business-data;
(e) any missing items (rows) signify a delete.

selecting "update" for the upload indicates:
(a) an action column (heading) is required -- columns are allowed to change;
new columns/attributes must be added to the shared-library, first (save action);
each action cell-value, for each item, must be: set, add, or remove;
(b) items may be set identical to existing items -- stats are preserved;
(c) existing items may be changed (re-set);
(d) new rows (items) with an add action will be added to the business-data;
(e) any missing items will remain unchanged in the existing business-data.

replace, is an overlay of the existing business-data, minus missing items;
the feed *must* be dumped/recreated with all existing data, before making any
needed changes -- any missing items will be deleted from the business-data.

update, may contain only those items that will be altered, based on actions --
an incremental-update; the feed-file may contain only a subset of items and
any missing items will remain in the business-data.

all updates are tracked by id; so, always be certain to keep the same id
tied to the same item -- never change, or reuse an id for any other item.

more generally, always upload-and-preview any re-upload --
carefully inspect each item listed, before applying the results.

@Celebird first of all thanks for the reply. Unfortunately your answer is not what I asked for, maybe I wasn't clear in my question.

I do understand the difference between updating and replacing a feed, the problem is that:

- we follow by the letter the instructions to set up an automatic update

- we create an updated version of the feed with the proper action column

- when google every 6 hours recalls our feed from the provided http:// it returns this very odd error:

Input error
Your data set or feed wasn't updated because the spreadsheet you're trying to upload includes an "Action" column.
Choose "Update" (not "Replace") if you'd like to include an "Action" column, or remove your "Action" column and try again. No changes

It's like if Google is asking to create the action column but then contradicts itself by stating that that column is not to be used within the updated feed.

Moreover, the error message says Choose "Update" (not "Replace"), but this is not possible when scheduling an automatic update (see image).

first, you're welcome and thank you for the clarification.

if a scheduled-upload is used, by default, only the full-replace upload
without actions, is currently supported/functioning; the second-part of
the error-message, choose ... may be a result of google using the same
wording for manual and scheduled uploads and that portion should likely

be ignored; only the first-sentence should apply, if there were actions.

yes, dumping/recreating the entire the feed data, each time,
with an action-column, for a full-replace, is not supported --
an incremental/update with scheduling is also not supported --
neither of which the error-message should be suggesting.

regardless, currently, a scheduled-upload must use a full-replace --

without an action column -- containing *all* items that are (still) wanted

and any changed or new items -- minus any (sold-out) items that need

to be deleted.

otherwise, the best likely course is to contact google directly.

@Celebird sorry for the late reply, thanks for this last answer.

Unfortunatley my fears just became reality. I'll have to dig into the APIs as soon as my tech team is available.
