Dynamic Keyword insertion does not work with trademarks, that we are allowed to use

Hi,

we are allowed to use the brand XY in our ad texts. Also if we write a normal, non dynamic ad including XY, there is no problem and the ad gets approved.

But when we want to use Dynamic Keyword Insertion (DKI) and the ad gets displayed, it always uses the default value, even though the keyword triggered is much shorter and would be used usually.

Example

Keyword: [XY Zubehör]

ad text: {Keyword:XY Zubehör kaufen}

ad displayed: XY Zubehör kaufen

It is supposed to use "XY Zubehör", because it is short enough to be inserted and because the brand XY is displayed anyway.

Does Adwords never allow DKI, when a brand shows up in the keyword, even if the advertiser is allowed to use it?

Hi,

Here are some common reasons why keyword insertion might not be working for you:

  • Nonsense: Inserted keywords need to make sense in context.
  • Incorrect grammar: Make sure each of your keywords agrees with your syntax.
  • Misspelled words: AdWords accepts misspelled keywords, but can't show ads with misspelled words.
  • Landing page doesn't work: Make sure your landing page URL can support dynamic text, or leave keyword insertion out of your landing page URL.
  • Adult content: Keyword insertion shouldn't be used when ads promote sexual content or adult material.

Hi,

all these reasons do not apply for us. The ad is fine and works fine in other ad groups (with other, unlizensed brands)

Hello Andre,

This is a good question and a frequent problem with DKI (Dynamic Keyword Insertion). If the potentially inserted keyword is a trademarked brand, you will need to submit a google adwords trademark authorization request form for them to have on hand that permits you to use the brand name in ad copy.

To fill out the form and receive approval from the owner of the trademark, you can do so here: https://services.google.com/inquiry/aw_tmauth?utm_source=policyhc&utm_medium=contact_tmauth&utm_camp...

You will need to fill out the form stating that you want approval for this instance for the AdWords account this applies to as well as the instances the trademark will be referenced in the ad such as multiple spelling variants.

let me know if this helps!

Best,

Nick

Because it was still not working, I contacted Google Support. Turns out that in fact DKI can not work, if the keyword to be inserted contains a trademarked brand. No matter, if you are allowed to use it or not. So unfortunately for this campaign we have to work without DKi.

Thanks for your replies.
