Actually I have one more question. Can you use the same keyword or phrase within other ad groups without causing a the google system to discount the word or phrase in another ad group ad?

Hi Mike,

I am not sure, why would you like to have same keyword in same ad group.

You can have same keywords in different ad groups but they will compete each other and one with higher rank will win the auction and trigger the ad.

Few advertisers, organize the ad groups by match types. And add the other match types keywords as negative ones in their ad groups.

Here is the discussion thread where duplication of keywords has been discussed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
