Reading a post from the company acquiso about converion optimizer, they made the following claims (acquisio.com/ppc/5-dirty-little-secrets-about-adwords-conversion-optimizer):

1. No Keyword Level Bids

2. Doesn’t Play Nice with Enhanced Campaigns

3. Needs new conversion data otherwise it stops performing?

4. New Keywords with no data are Doomed to Fail

5. CPCs Can Inflate

Can someone tell me, if these claims are correct?

Hi Adhummer,

Welcome to the Adwords community.

1. No Keyword Level Bids

It means, you are not allowed to bid at keyword level. CAP bids are set at Adgroup level. You can not set the bid at individual keyword.

2.Doesn’t Play Nice with Enhanced Campaigns

As we know, now, in enhanced campaigns, bid modifier is available at location, ad scheduling and device level. But if you are using CPA bidding, you can not use bid modifier at any level, except -100% at device level.

Needs new conversion data otherwise it stops performing?

If you pause CPA campaign for some time and post then you enable it. It does not pick the previous campaigns performance as it works on the basis of  campaigns last 15 days data.

New Keywords with no data are Doomed to Fail

As this campaign requires previous history of campaigns, keyword, Ad Copy data. so it does not give you better result in New ads or keywords.

CPCs Can Inflate

It means conversion optimizers works on the basis of conversion not for click. So some times your avg cpc is too high or some times it is very less. As adwords system set your bid at real time so that you can receive conversion.

Please read more about Conversion Optimizer in below link:-

Hope that help you Smiley Happy

Thanks for your reply but I am more interested in the technicalities of CO..... A automatic bidding tool vendor claims the following and I would like to know if these are true:

1. No Keyword Level Bids

Does CO set the bids automatically on a keyword level or ad group level?

2. Doesn’t Play Nice with Enhanced Campaigns

Does CO modify bids based on devices, time of day etc....?

3. Needs new conversion data otherwise it stops performing?

If the website stops performing for some technical reason, will this cause problems using CO because CO no longer has recent data to set bids with. Is this claim correct?

4. New Keywords with no data are Doomed to Fail

Apparently new keywords have no recent conversion data so when adding them to the campaign, they don't perform.

5. CPCs Can Inflate

Do the CPCs generally inflate once one uses CO?

Do you have further data on this?
