Can my landing page for my ad be my websites homepage?

Hey all,

I am the Marketing Analyst for a small business in Berkeley, CA and this is my first attempt at using Google Adwords. I was wondering if the landing page I link with my ad can simply be the homepage of the website or if it has to be a completely different page?

Any input will help.

Hi Casey...well it all depends on the info that you have on your homepage vs the relevance of the ad, but I think that it is best that the ad goes to the exact page where the user can find out more information about the specific product/service you are advertising in your ad. This can also affect on the quality score of your ad.

Remember, we as consumers are a bit lazy and prefer that the information that we are searching on a webpage can be found immediately.

But to answer the question...yes, it can be the homepage (although I wouldn't recommend it).

Can be? Sure - it can be any page on your domain.

Should be? Probably not....

However, for most small businesses it's probably a decent place to start.

as you get traffic look to see what people are searching for and what they are looking at once they get to your site. Then look to build specific landing pages for those topics and develop segmented campaigns and/or ad groups to send traffic to these new pages.

consdier this... someone searches for "blue widgets" and sees your ad - on your ad you say you are specialist suppliers of blue widgets. They eagerly click on your ad. what page do you think would be best to show them... kinda obvious really, isn't it?
