I read in the overview that advertisers target CPM for brand awareness. Can they use it to measure the website traffic as well?

Please throw some light on this.

Hello.

I think you misunderstood the situation.

There are two charging / bidding methods when showing ads on Google's Display Network.

  • CPC: advertisers pay for every click their ad gets
  • CPM: advertisers pay every time their ad is shown (per 1000 "impressions") (M = latin symbol for 1000)

There are indeed advertisers who do not necessarily require people to click their ads, they are happy to show their brand(s) across the Google Display Network. That's why it is said that they are doing "branding", i.e. making people aware of their brand.

I do not understand how anybody could measure website traffic though; website traffic is usually measured through applications such as Google Analytics, or webserver log analyzers, among others.
