Auto bid problems

I created a new ad in an ad group, asking for auto bid; the average CPC for the group is $.08. Suddenly I see the average CPC for the new ad within the group is $1.92. My max CPC is $.50. What gives? I read the article about why the CPC might exceed the maximum I'm willing to pay, but this is ridiculous. My maximum budget for one day is $7.00. For 13 clicks yesterday I was charged about $26.

No one is there at Google for the weekend, and of course I've just begun this special promotion.

How can I keep the auto bid active while making sure the average CPC is $.08, the average for the *group.*

Thanks for any help!

Good morning.

Check the Settings tab of your campaign, scroll down to Bid strategy. Did you enter a maximum or "cap" for how much you were willing to bid?
