Account Transfer

Is it possible to transfer an account from one owner to another?  We've been running a campaign for about 3 years now and the guy running it no longer wants to manage it so I'd like to transfer things over to my account... but I'm not entirely sure how to do it and want to make sure I avoid any potential hiccups.  I'd like to know if it's possible... and if so... what steps I should take.  Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.

Absolutely...

Follow these steps:

1) Grant them administrative access.  http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=70619

2) Have them enter the new billing information. http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=142711

3) Have them delete your access. http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47017

LoonieGuy is correct up to a point. It's easy to transfer an account from one manager to another, but if that guy has other web sites in his AdWords account he most likely will not want to do that. If that's the case, you will need to open your own account anc create the campaigns from scratch. There is no way to transfer a campaign from one account to another and retain its history.

Best of Luck!

Thanks... that's what I assumed.  It will go from one account to another... not remain where it is.  I was wondering if there were any way to export/import settings from one account to another... groups, keywords, etc.  That would help me get setup correctly from the start and avoid any hiccups.  Doesn't sound like there are.

Old question, so I am simply leaving this reply for others who might come by seeking an answer to the last question:

Exporting and importing entire accounts is a breeze with Google AdWords Editor.

Hi, would the Analytics account also be lost if I would transfer my Adwords account by granting them administrative access and deleting my access? Is the Analytics account linked or separate from the Adwords account?

Hi Rick, although Analytics and AdWords can be linked, they're entirely separate Accounts.  Removing access from one does not remove it from the other.  Of course, if you create a new AdWords Account you'll need to re-link Analytics, WMT and so on, but the historical data will be retained in Analytics.

Jon, What would be the procedure to transfer a campaign from one account to another. I'm unclear as some of the older posts seem to be different than the new dashboard seems to be. Thanks!

Actually, transferring an AdWords account from one manager (email address) to another is quite simple. I can't quite tell, from your post, if you're trying to transfer an account or just a single campaign inside an account with other, active campaigns?

If you're trying to transfer responsibility to an entire account, have the current manager log in to the account and grant your email address administrative access. (If you are already managing another AdWords account under your email, you'll need a "clean" email address--I recommend setting up an MCC for easier access to multiple client accounts.)

Then you can log in using your new credentials and remove the original manager's access to the account.

The account is now transferred--with all of the current campaigns and performance history in place.

If, instead, you're wanting to transfeer a single campaign inside an account with other, active campaigns, then the previous posts are correct--that campaign together with performance history cannot be moved.

What if you have a client and their old Adwords company refuses you access. Will Google step in to assist? Are there any rules or help google gives to get access?
