Youtube Display Ads

Each ad group has 10+ youtube placement with banner ads. Each ad group has an estimated of 3-5Mil impression. CPC bid is high but the campaign is not spending a single dime. Is there something going on with Youtube display ads? It was hitting target daily spend last week and then since the week it is nowhere near close and sometime a zero spend at the end of the day. I don't understand why or what is going on.

Hi Soph,

I apologize that no one has helped you out here yet. Are you still having the issue with traffic in your video campaign?

I am. One of the campaign is budget at $100 for testing and has spent less $5 now. It used to hit closer to $100 but never really spent out. I can't wrap my mind on how there's a big drop off.

 Hi Soph,

It's hard to say without looking into the account (and you can always call into the AdWords Specialists if this is a time-sensitive issue), but a few things to check:

  • Check your Ads tab to make sure that none of your ads are disapproved
  • Double check that you did not accidentally pause the campaign, or set an end date on the campaign (under the Settings tab)
  • Check on your video on YouTube: make sure its status has not been changed to private and that it's still available
  • If you are only using placement targeting, it is possible that those YouTube channels chose to stop showing ads. Have you tested adding any other targeting to this campaign to see if it is able to serve?
  • Likewise, if you did change any targeting remember that multiple targeting types in the same ad group will cause those targeting methods to layer on top of each other. Make sure you do not have placements and keywords in the same ad group, for example, if you want more impressions to be available.

Have you made any other major changes to your account or the campaign in the last week or so?

HI Cassie,

I have not changed anything when I first saw that it was not spending. Then I changed the bidding. However, the targeting is just placement that are not duplicates. Why would some channels chose to stop showing ads? I am not sure if it happened around the time Youtube Red became available?

Thanks!

Hi Soph,

Channels might choose to stop showing ads for a variety of reasons--if they're able to sponsor themselves through brand partnerships, pledging platforms like YouTube Red or Patreon, or simply because they no longer want to show ads on their content. I'm afraid we don't have any insight into why an individual channel would make the decision.

Without further context, this is difficult to diagnose here on the Community. I would suggest calling the AdWords specialist team. They may be able to uncover more specifics.
