That is disturbing. The math says it should take over 60 days to hit that price. Is the budget set for each campaign in a set (perhaps it's 200 x 6 campaigns)? How many days is the cost accrued over? The duration display in the upper right is the key to viewing stats accurately for a specific time period. Still, in one day that number is alarming.

I Started the Ad only yesterday... And it all happened in 1 day.. to be more precise within in 1 hour... I was checking my Analytics accc and there was a huge spike in the no of visitors. So got suspicious and checked my youtube Video Ad campaigns and problem was there..

but still dont get how when i set a budget as a low as Rs 200 and how does the Ad replicate itself to 13000?? AS per the logics shouldnt the ads be paused once the budget is reached?

Hi Tool,

Rest assured, I'm looking into this for you. I will provide an update in a day or 2.

In the meanwhile, set your video ads to rotate more evenly. In your account, go to Campaigns-> All Video Campaigns-> Settings-> Advanced Settings->Ad Rotation->Rotate ads more evenly.

Thanks,
Mini

was it due to his cpv? because the same thing happened to me. I put a $20 budget and it spent $80 due to a one day spike of 4500+ views. I had it set up to spend $1.43 per day for 14 days.

Hi there,

Thank you for writing into the AdWords Community Forum and hello from Google headquarters.  You asked a great question, and this sounds like a classic example of overdelivery. Let me take a moment to explain what may be going on in your account:

Let's pretend for a second that you run a bakery, and you are normally only open until 5pm. However, perhaps today, it is 4:59pm and you have a line of people out the door who are waiting to get your fresh baked goods. In this circumstance, you would probably be willing to extend your hours for the day in order to accommodate the large influx of customers at your doorstep.

This concept, in AdWords is known as overdelivery. The whole concept of overdelivery is  to provide some flexibility in your account to help make up for days when traffic is slow and your ads don't get as much exposure. Here's how: to make sure that you don't miss showing your ads on a popular day, Google might use more of your budget on some days and less on other days. When this happens, you are only charged up to 20% higher than your daily budget.  To see how much you have been actually been charged , you can check out the billing tab for additional information. From the transaction history, if you click into each day's campaign clicks, you can see the charges by each campaign and you will also see the over delivery amounts listed here.

Our system makes sure that after an entire month of service, you're never charged more than your monthly charging limit -- the average number of days in a month (30.4) multiplied by your average daily budget. If it does exceed this amount, you would find a credit listed in your billing tab.

More information about AdWords Overdelivery can be found in this link:

Hope this helps!

Why would overdelivery, based on slow traffic days, occur in the first day? There's no pattern of anything to draw from. Your explanation shows that you didnt 'rtfq'; curiously similar to a few unhelpful sessions I've experienced with AdWords help.

An 80$ spend over a 20$ budget is not a 20 % overdelivery. Overdelivery would have spend 20$ + 4 $ at most.

This is a bug from video ads, and the overspending will be seen as a credit on the billing tab, from my experience so far.
