Hello Friends

We are little bit new to Adwords and facing this error in our analytics account related to adwords

""Invalid AdWords gclid

The Ad Destination URL http://www.example.com/from the AdWords account abc@gmail.com 123456 has accrued a significant number of clicks but a lower-than-expected number of corresponding sessions because the page is dropping or altering the gclid parameter inserted by Google. Check the web server's redirect logic or its use of a URL rewrite engine to ensure the gclid parameter is preserved.""

We have just moved our site on SSL from http to https is this the reason of the error or something else, please advise me further what should i do now to resolve this issue

Thanks and Regards

Hi Jayant

Please edit your post and remove your personal information. For your own safety.

To address your problem, it looks like it has been resolved. I cannot reproduce the problem on your site.

It's possible that this problem is now fixed. Can you try clicking "Test Again" in GA?

Hello Dave

Thanks for looking in this matter, but unfortunately problem did not solved yet in GA I have clicked on "Test again" so its in Pending verification and it will take time to check

Further how did you checked it without login or Password & dose it have any relation with moving on SSL

Regards
jayant

Hi jayant,

Did you change your destination URL's to https? If not, you probably should.

Do http requests get redirected to https? If so, the gclid is not being passed correctly with the redirection. Changing your destination URL's to https will take care of that.

It's still a good idea to redirect http to https for traffic from other sources.

Best of Luck!

Hi Jayant.
Great question. Further to Perer's great answer, I'd like to just give you a bit of detail about how I tested it.

I went to your website and added in a test ID:
https://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com/?gclid=xxxxxxxxx

AdWords adds the "?gclid=xxxxx" part when a visitor lands on your site from an AdWords ad.

If I test using these URLs:
https://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com/?gclid=xxxxxxxxx
http://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com/?gclid=xxxxxxxxx

They both work fine.

I also used the Chrome Extension called "Tag Assistant" to make sure that there were no tagging problems on your site. I didn't log into your site or into your AdWords account Smiley Happy

From what I can see, this issue looks fixed. Let's see what GA says when the "check again" feature comes back.

Hi Jayant,

I went to one of your interior pages, not the home page, with http and added a gclid value. The page seems to have properly redirected to https with the gclid in tact.

How did you set the 301 redirect? The way to do this on a Windows server is to create both http and https web servers for the same domain and IP address and with the same home directory. Then do a global redirect of the http site to the https site. Do not check the "exact URL" box. That should allow the query string to pass along with the redirect.

Open Computer Management and expand the web sites. Right click on the http domain and click on Properties. Click on the Home Directory tab. Check "A permanent redirection for this resource. In the redirect field, enter "https://" followed by your domain name.

If you are doing the redirect with Javascript, be sure to include the query string in the new URL.

Best of Luck!

We are having the same issue with our website. Many of the errors seem to fix themselves in time but I'd like to know why these errors keep appearing in the first place. Any thoughts?

Hi Kimberley N,

Please start a new thread with your question and provide a more detailed description of the issue. It may have the same symptoms, but a different cause or solution.
