large discrepancy in reports between my host & adwords

Hi,

I am getting different reports between my host account & adwords.

I just want to know if word "impressions" used in the adwords campaign is same as my host uses the word "Pageviews".

I am getting about 50,000 impressions in adwords report versus 2000 page views in my host's report

Thanks in advance,

Anil

Hi Anil,

The word impression here means the number of time your ad was seen. However, page view means the number of visitors who landed on your website.

In adwords page views are actually the clicks that you got.

Hi Anil,

I am not quite sure what you mean here by host account. I would assume you are referring to some 3rd party tool here which is tracking your data along with Adwords.

As rightly said above, there is a difference between impressions and page views. If you are using Google Analytics as well, you can see this term Page views there. Impressions are simply the number of times your ad has been shown on Google network. Pageviews is the total number of pages viewed on your site. Both are different.

Hi Pankaj,
Quoting you "Impressions are simply the number of times your ad has been shown on Google network. Pageviews is the total number of pages viewed on your site. Both are different.
Aren't "number of times" my ad has been shown & " total number of pages viewed" same?

Anyways, I have to leave for today.

I apologise to write here late.

Hi Anil,

No, page views will happen when someone visit your site.

Impressions are only restricted to the number of times your ad has been shown. No click, no visit, just an impression.

Hope that clarifies!

Hi Anil,

No, both are different. If somebody clicks your ad, it doesn't always mean that the user is going to land on your website and complete a visit.

See this article explaining the differences: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1257084?hl=en
