Why is order tracking showing up as a landing page in cpc channel?

We send out confirmation emails when a customer makes a purchase and that confirmation email has a link to a page that allows you to track your order.  What is strange is that these pages showed up 67 times in three months as landing pages for a cpc channel?  How is a cpc tag getting associated with this page?

Thanks,

Hi Lawrence,

When you say "CPC channel" you mean Google Adwords, or any other cpc source?

It's really odd that you're getting visits coming from CPC. Do you use UTM parameters on the URLS you use to redirect the user?

Have you checked if by ANY chance you're not using that URL as a Final URL on your ad?

Hi Lawrence,

Are you using Dynamic Search Ads as well? If yes, cross check to ensure that your tracking page url is not being picked by AdWords to show ad for. If it's appearing, get ahead to exclude it.

Second, check with your campaigns to see if Dynamic Sitelinks are appearing with your ads. May be your tracking page URL is being picked up as a dynamic sitelink to show up with your ads. If yes, use your own sitelinks to make AdWords stop showing up dynamic sitelinks with your ads.

Third, as @leandrofm said, make sure you are not using manually tagged UTMs to credit those clicks to CPC.

All the best!

Thanks

Hi Leandrofm,

Thank you for the follow up. To answer your question, if you go to Google Analytics and navigate to Acquisition, All Traffic, Channels, and Paid Search you can select Landing Page as a primary dimension for Paid Search. In theory every landing page should have been directed to from a URL in an Adwords campaign as you noted. We are seeing landing pages that we don't believe we've directed traffic to from our ads (like the track your order page).

Hi Lawrence,

If I'm not mistaken, this path "Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels > Paid Search > Landing Page" will show all pages sessions of your website that have user source/medium as Google/cpc. This is not necessarily your Destination URL, but rather URLs visited by users that came from your campaign.

For specific Destination URL insight, you should go to "Acquisition > Adwords > Destination URLs". This should give what you're looking for.

Hope this helps.
