When is an impression actually triggered?

Hi all,

a while ago there was an article about when an impression in adwords is triggered and measured.

I red that the impression is triggered if a search query is 3s or longer in the search box. So, a conversion would be triggered for all the ads shown even if the search query is not completed. Eg. on the picture:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwXjXk7mWEKzMlpXRzVpRERFMU0/view?usp=sharing

all ads received an impression, but the search query is not finished:

Can anyone confirm/help on this?

I believe that Google would use the auto filled word as the search query. In your example, the user typed in "lapto" and you can see the autofilled letters (in light grey) which would make the search query "laptopi". So Google is using "laptopi" as the search query and whichever one of your keywords best matches that search query will get the impression.

As for your question on when a conversion is triggered....that depends on what you're counting as a conversion (a sale, form fill, link to a website).

Hope this helps!

Thank's @Tomasz_C,

you answer is not the answer I was looking for. The answer I'm looking for, is when (and how) the conversion is triggered (in that case - witch kw gets the credit) and what is the serach query responsible for it?

Thank you @Rebeka A,
this was my idea also, but...
What if 2 of my kw's are on the suggestion list? Which one gets the credit? What if the QS is the same? Is then the higher one on the suggest list to blame?
Where can I measure the text string that was written and a conversion afterwards happen (seales) if the search query was not completed?

Hi mvarga,

I don't think you will be able to distinguish between the manually entered search and the autofill keyword. I'd recommend running a search terms report. You'll be able to see which search query triggered which keyword.

Best of Luck!

Hi folks (@petebardo@Rebeka A@Tomasz_C)

I've waited for a while, but here is the official Google representative's answer (unfortunately it's in Croatian, but if you use Google's translate you get the point. Check the bolded part of the answer). To put a long story short, the typed string (bolded part of a search query) gets the credit:
