Website Clicks for YouTube ads

I have a question about the metric Website Clicks for YouTube ads. Where exactly are users clicking to be taken to the website? My video does not have any overlay links nor does it have a URL in the description. How would a user find their way to my website and incure a Website Click?

Hey TypeMarketing,

Great question! To start off, website clicks reported under AdWords for Video campaigns are clicks from Video Ad Formats to your website which are actually free of charge for you. If you’re not using InVideo Static Image Overlays, the clicks you are seeing reported are probably coming from YouTube text ads or TrueView InStream ads with a website. YouTube text ads appear as ads over YouTube videos (similar to overlays).

All videos ads which are created require certain ad attributes which include a destination URL. It is likely in the case of your Video Ad, you have set a click-through destination URL to your website rather than the YouTube Channel for in-stream ads. You can view what has been set-up as the destination URL for your video ad by viewing Ad Attribute (required) under the Edit Ad Option.

Let us know if you have further questions on AdWords for Video reporting. If you’d like to discuss account specifics, you can give us a call at 1-866-2-GOOGLE, and we’ll be happy to help!

Hi,

I have a question about setting my website as the destination url in Youtube Ads. This only applies to In stream or text ads is that correct? In other words this would not apply to Yotube Search ads?

Also what happens if I set the youtube video as the destination url - do clicks get tracked separately from views?

Hey Leif,

Your website URL can be set for AdWords for video ads, but you are correct these will only apply to the In-stream format not In-search ads. If you were to setup a YouTube video link as your destination URL, these clicks will get tracked in the website clicks column on the Ads tab.

Additionally, you can set your Display URL and Destination URL under the Ad attributes (can be accessed from the Ads tab when clicking on the pencil icon on the ad).

Hope this helps!

Hi Juliana S.
To piggy back on this issue: do Call to Action Overlays, when clicked, register a 'Website Click' in AdWords? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Marc-

Clicks on a Call-to-Action overlay (CTA) will be reported under the videos tab in the AdWords for Video interface. Here you will see reporting on impressions, clicks, and CTR of the CTA. Let me know if you aren't able to find it.

Hi Juliana,

I'm currently unable to view metrics for clicks and CTR in the videos tab in the Adwords for video interface. I remember this was one of the standard metrics included in the interface, but it seems to have disappeared. Has it moved somewhere? Where can I find it now?

Thanks
Sarah
