I use the {keyword} and {matchtype} to store the keywords typed to reach our Ad on google and the match type of the keywords in our database once a successful sign up has been accomplished.

But for of them these variables are being stored as "UKNOWN" what could be the possilbe reasons if anyone has come across this before?

OK, next step in your debugging process might be to determine if the data is empty on the ad click vs being dropped somewhere during a visit to your site.  Perhaps it's a session-based problem?  Start with your server logs to see if the {keyword} and {matchtype} are populated on the initial ad click.  If the data's not there, look at the referring URL to see if that gives you any clues, but if the data's not there on the ad click, you need to handle that situation.  If the data is there, then you need to figure out what's going on with your tracking mechanism and recording of the data to your DB.

Hi,

Could you share a tagged URL that you are using for your site. You can remove the site name if needed, just wanted to check if the tagging has been implemented correctly. Also, please ask the technical person whose implemented the database to ensure that the tagging parameters used by you in the ad URL are the ones the system is parsing as a miss here might lead to loss of data. Essentially, if your URL is utm_term={keyword} then the code used to enter the data to the database needs to read the utm_term in the URL and then add the value of the {keyword} parameter to the database table. An error here might be the reason for the problem you're facing.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Nikhil
