hi!

Clicking on a link on our website users can open a new page and view an online pdf file, a brochure, but we'd like to send users (using google adwords) directly on the pdf/brochure page and we'd like to track downloads: there is a standard button on the top right hand side where it is possible to download the file on the pdf page, near the print button and rotate clockwise button. Is it possible to track this conversion with google analytics? How can I do?

kind regards,

Mirco

Hey Micro,

This would be a perfect time to use Event Tracking. In short you want to attach the following template to your href click to download:

ga('send', 'event', [eventCategory], [eventAction], [eventLabel], [eventValue], [fieldsObject]);

Here's more information on event tracking: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/events

By the way, EventLabel and EventValue are optional.

Once you start tracking you events you need to turn them into goals. Read the following article on how to do this: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1032415?hl=en#goal_configuration_options

Lastly you're going to need to import the goals into AdWords, here's a great article on how to do this: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2375435?hl=en

Let me know if this solves your problem!

Hi @mirco d,

Yes, you can track the file download in Google Analytics as event tracking.

Setup the Goals for downloads in GA and then Import Google Analytics goals into AdWords.
