Tracking Vanity URL's in Google Analytics
I have made the mistake of adding various Google Analytics tracking codes to a vanity URL assuming it would be tracked. As I understand it Google Analytics cannot track vanity URL's. Is this correct? Is there any possible workaround for this? Perhaps via keyword reports or another identifier....?
Re: Tracking Vanity URL's in Google Analytics
Do you mean like a Facebook or Google Plus vanity URL?
Google Analytics works only with web sites you create and control. You can not add the GA tracking code for pages like Facebook, Twitter, G+, etc. Adding parameters to the URL does not track anything. The GA code on the landing page tracks that.
If you are sending your traffic to a social media web site the only tracking you will get is through AdWords.
I hope I'm answering your question. If not, please explain and I'll try again.
Best of Luck!
