Tracking User Flow in Google Analytics

Hello,

This is my PostSmiley Happy

I am running an Affiliate campaign through AdWords. The Affiliate network provides the usual tracking link which we then wrap around our own URL with our Domain. Flow is like this:

Ad on Adwords  > Final URL under our Domain so click is captured and shown as originating from our domain  >  User redirected to the Advertisers product page

Format of our Final is URL is:

https://subdomain.mycompany.com/product-name

the above URL encodes the Affiliate Link which is usually:

https://subdomain.affiliatenetwork.com/click?id=Whatever&subid=12897932&Parm=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.Advert...

My question is that our Adwords accounts shows 3x the clicks that the Affiliate Network is reporting. I have asked them to look into it but they cannot account for the difference.

How do I use GA to see what is happening to the traffic after our Ad is clicked and how many clicks are getting to the Advertisers product page.

Thank you,

Paul

Hi Paul
You can use the user flow reports here : https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1709395?hl=en

But it's normal that not all visitors will click through to the merchant after landing on your site. In fact, 30% isn't bad at all.

Hi Dave_Davis,

Yeah I tried using the User Flow but I couldn't isolate the URL related to the Advertiser.

I should clear one thing first. Users are not landing on our page. The URL is just a redirect so that we can show the traffic/click coming from our domain. The click is supposed to lead them directly to the Advertisers page.

The problem I am having is that not all of our clicks are showing up in the Affiliate Network's report. About 70% of our clicks from Adwords do not show up in their reports. We use the same Affiliate network for other clients and those clicks are generally within an acceptable level . For some reason the Affiliate network is severely under reporting clicks for one our client in Australia is Do think you can do a paid consult with me via screen share so I can show you what I mean?

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul
Unfortunately, we do not offer paid consults of this nature.

Normally, the problem is the other way around. The GA tag doesn't fire because the redirect us too quick. I'd have to see the URL and how the redirect is done to be able to give any more detail.

You might want to install the tag assistant chrome extension and a header checker to see what's calling what as you go through the process yourself.

Hi Dave, Here is a sample link for the client in question: https://dashboard.buzztala.com/bfgoodrich_all-terrain_ta_ko_tyres_21575r15_100s/559be3ddcd4bd06d5c86... I took your advice and added the extensions and will start playing around with them. Thank you, Paul
