Remarketing tag has 'critical issues' when more than one item in cart

I've installed the remarketing tag on a site and it works fine ... all except for the cart when there is more than one item in it.

When there is one item the code looks like this:

var google_tag_params = {

ecomm_prodid: '18068',

ecomm_pagetype: 'cart',

ecomm_totalvalue: '6.95',

};

This validates in tag assistant perfectly

When there is two items the code looks like this:

var google_tag_params = {

ecomm_prodid: ['17794', '18068'],

ecomm_pagetype: 'cart',

ecomm_totalvalue: '14.90',

};

This doesn't validate in tag assistant. The error is in 'Requests' but there is no clue there as to the issue.

Screenshot of the error is at: http://batteryguy.com/files/adwords-remarketing-error.jpg

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?.

Hi Tim,

The issue is pretty simple. Just separate the product price instead of giving out the total of them. Like ecomm_totalvalue: [12, 2.90]

That should fix itSmiley Happy

Are you saying this page:
https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/3002580?hl=en
is wrong?

The example it gives is:
ecomm_pagetype=cart
ecomm_prodid=['prodid1', 'prodid2']
ecomm_totalvalue=699.45

Note - I'm talking about the cart pages, not the 'sale complete' page tag ... which I think is what you are referring to?

Yes, its wrong. I am also talking about the cart page only. I have setup dynamic remarketing for many of my clients. You have to believe meSmiley Happy

Well it wouldn't be the first time Google's example has been wrong! I'll try it tomorrow and if it works I'll hit the 'Accept as Solution' button!

Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I also added the tag to 'category' pages (where there is no price required) and it falls over there too. Seems like everywhere that more than one product id appears causes issues.

Contacted Adwords Support who looked at it and said "I am checking with specialists .... this may take some time". I'll updated this thread when they get back to me incase anyone else comes across the same issue.

I can see it working through Tag Assistant. More over tag assistant also shows false positives so its better to go with your rational thinking. Anyway good luck with your quest.

I tested on your site with multiple items in the cart and it worked fine for me.

What version of Google Tag assistant are you using? You can check by right-clicking on the extension and choosing "Manage". I have version 0.9.63

If that's not the version you have you can click on "Update extensions now" at the top of the page, although that should happen automatically every day.

Definitely got version 0.9.63 so very wierd that you are seeing it working while I see it flagging a critical issue.

Also Google has come back to me suggesting the problem is because I have Analytics and Adwords code on the same page.

I did this because Analytics was not picking up product views and earlier in the week a Google support agent told me it was because I didn't have both code snippets!
