Problem with Remarketing Tag Error

I am trying to implement my first remarketing tag and it is not firing OK according to Google Tag Assistant which reports 3 errors and you can see these if you have chrome GTA.

The domain is www.pembrokeinstruments.com

The remarketing code I inserted via a GA dashboard app is

<!--------------------------------------------------

Remarketing tags may not be associated with personally identifiable information or placed on pages related to sensitive categories. See more information and instructions on how to setup the tag on: http://google.com/ads/remarketingsetup

It is possible that the code is working, see this previous answer
https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/AdWords-Tracking-and-Reporting/Adwords-Remarketing-Tag-Pla...

Also, I did notice the very bottom of you site's source code there are some spammy links that should be removed if you didn't put them there.

Hello Leslie,

I checked your website and the re-marketing code on it. The tag manager is giving an error message of "NO HTTP Response detected". What this means is that AdWords Remarketing code was detected on the page but the code itself did not execute.

I guess the following line of code could be the issue. Could you just check whether you have placed the code exactly as it is there in the AdWords account. The code which you see below, if you see "src=" there you will see that the is no "http" before the url. Could you remove "www" replace it with http.

<script type="text/javascript" src="//www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion.js">

Thanks,
Rahul

Hi @Leslie T,

The code fires fine for me. However, there are a few important things you should look at -

 • Page Type is showing as 'home' everywhere. The value should be specific to the type of page it is
 • You are using both ecom_ and dynx_. As you do not show buying options on the website, your website won't be a good fit for retail segment. You can go with Custom i.e. dynx_ though and can upload your feed right from AdWords interface.
 • The totalvalue does not match with the value on the page.

All the best!

Thanks

Hi Ratan-
Thanks. I am not sure at all what values to use for the dynx_ parameters. They will be different for every page? Where do I find the values to use for the dynx_ parameters?
It seems you are saying each of my web pages will have it's own individual tag? I am using a Wordpress plugin called "Tracking Code Manager" by Intelly which has the option to place the code before head, before body, or after body; which one should I select? Thanks -Leslie

Hi Rob-
I made some progress with defining a valid feed within Adwords and I also have a valid feed in Google Merchant account. Does Google Tag Assistant only validate against a feed in Google Merchant? Could you please check pembrokeinstruments.com again and send me some feedback? Thanks -Leslie

Hi @Leslie T,

The script will remain the same on all pages, but the values of custom parameters will be different on individual pages. There are several plugins for WordPress and Woocommerce for retail vertical, but not many for custom vertical. The best would be to use Google Tag Manager to setup dynamic re-marketing on your website. You should ideally take help of a developer as it would be a bit technical.

For the placement of script, it would be go before the closing body tag.

Thanks

Thanks, Ratan. When I look at tag status with Adwords (see attached) jpg, it seems the tag is firing OK (or am I wrong). In any case this looks like a much bigger task (and not friendly to non-coders) than Google suggests. If I don't use GTM, I have to manually insert the custom parameters via code on each webpage? That's not fun!tag-2.JPGtag-1.JPG

Hi @Leslie T,

Your code is active but as the screenshot itself suggests, your custom parameters are not set properly. You need to make sure that every single page on the website fires code with proper custom parameters. Yes, I agree if you are not a coder, it would be overwhelming for you to work with it. Better seek a developer to implement this for you.

All the best!

Thanks
