PLA product targets in Analytics (not set)

Starting May 22, PLA product target reporting appears to have been removed from Analytics. Prior to May 22, product targets were displayed as Keywords within PLA campaign ad groups. The product targets correspond to "auto targets" in AdWords, in our case, adwords_labels=xxxx. Now there is just one Keyword displayed: (not set). This prevents analyzing performance in Analytics at the product target level. Autotagging is set in AdWords and no other utm vars are present in the PLA URLs.

We do not understand a deliberate removal of a valuable dimension so we're really hoping this is a temporary bug. The following two posts in the Analytics forum shed more light:

Hi there,

I've asked our specialist team to look into this for you and they should be in contact in the coming days.

Response I got from Adwords Support is that yes this no longer works and no they have no idea how to fix it and it won't be fixed any time soon. 'Use the data in adwords to optimize your pla campaigns'... which is ridiculous because the most effective optimization relies on conversion data which isn't available at the landing page/product level in Adwords.

Hello.

I'm afraid we'll have to use {adwords_producttargetid} (the valueTrack parameter) in our feeds in order to make up for that.

Unfortunately there will be advertisers out there without much control over their feed generation process and for them it may be more difficult.

Another solution would be to go very granular, as in one ad group per product and per product target, and use the ad group as the "marker".

Good news, product targets are back in Analytics, under Keywords (just as they were). I've just checked in some of my accounts and they are all working. Old data is also there, so the bug (I think it was a bug) is fixed. Yay! Smiley Happy
