PLA Product Target Bug??

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Hey all,

I’m trying to figure out which ProductTargetID goes with which product target for PLAs and I think I’ve run into a problem. First, no one has responded to my question on either Adwords forum, despite posting the question ~24 hrs ago: https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/Set-up-and-basics/How-do-I-tell-what-the-ID-of-a-product-tar...

Second, check out these two products from the feed, when I click both I get the same producttargetid, even though they have completely different labels. This looks like either a major bug in the PLA system or a very strange behavior in our code generating the feed.

You can see the first product/row has an adwords_label column of “62917,price40to50,typeSmiley Tongueoster, cat:travel “ so this first product is a travel poster, and should map to that product target, and when I search for “Art Print: Walker's California Street, San Francisco, 1964, 39x28in.” and click I land on the following url:  http://www.allposters.com/-sp/California-Street-San-Francisco-1964-Posters_i62917_.htm?AID=96280778&...

You can see the second product/row has an adwords_label column of “4833853,priceunder25,typeSmiley Tongueoster, catSmiley Tonguehotography” so this second product is a photography poster, and should map to that product target, and when I search for “Art Print: Walker's California Street, San Francisco, 1964, 39x28in.” and click I land on the following url: http://www.allposters.com/-sp/New-York-Manhattan-Black-Berenholtz-Posters_i4833853_.htm?AID=96280778...

How can both of these products, with two different adwords_label values, matching to two different product targets, have the exact same producttargetid value?

This can only happen one of two ways as far as I can tell. First, is a bug in the PLA system. Second, is, somehow a bug in our system, where the category of products changes more frequently than I think and as a result the Google system is out of sync with our system.

Thoughts? I will post this in the forum once again as well, and see if I can get a response.

I am not finding any answers to anything PLA related. I have a post as well that everyone seems to be looking at, but has no answers to.

I think the problem is that Google pushed this WAY too early and without any real testing. they were trying to get a bump in cash by telling everyone to just create an all encompasing adgroup for all products, "Just to stay in the game" and then the massive amounts of com[plaints started rolling in and they don't have answers for them. Since the 2 pieces of the company are not used to working together (Adwords & Merchants).

I still have products in my feed that are coming up as not able to sell and not able to advertise. I have submitted many many emails about why competitors can sell the exact same item, with the exact same SKU and the exact same UPC number, but I am being suppressed. I get the typical "ESL" response of, " Google shopping is changing and will now be governed by adwords policies". Which of course makes no sense, because I ma advertising the very same items there as well, with no issue.

I think they need to work out the bugs and the people in this forum can't help because "En.adwords-community.com is not owned, operated, or controlled by Google or its owners". (I saw the little hidded disclaimer on the way in)   Smiley Happy

If I were you , I would look into creating 2 distinctly different URLs for the feed. The primary URL, being the dynamic one for the google shopping location and the secondary one, being the trackiong URL Although, I am struggling with this as well, so who am I to give advice on something that we are having issues with as well.

Good luck!
