Offline Conversion Tracking

I have a client who has products on their site, but does not sell anything online. We're running an AdWords campaign and I'm wondering how we can track it's effectiveness. I know of using phone tracking but in our case it wouldn't be too helpful.

I've read of one solution in another forum post where a site logs all the cookies in a databse and attatches a unique ID when the user comes from an adwords click. Then the user is presented a discount coupon for that the products they're viewing with the unqiue ID on it. Then the user comes into the store, presents the coupon and you enter the unique ID, recallling the cookies in your own browser and visit a conversion page.

I've actually treid doing this with no luck. For whatever reason Google never registers the conversion even though I recreate the cookies exactly after the first click. Has anyone actually succeeded in this?

Unless you´re selling something online - like a webshop - it´s always a challenge to know how customers found you, because they won´t put any orders online, and they might not interactive with you at all online, but only via phone or face-to-face.

But here are some tip for how you can increase possibilities of tracking how your customers found you anyway:

1) Insert a form on your webpage and track the use of it with conversion tracking (or Goals in Analytics). Not to get and track orders, but to get and track leads, questions and other forms of interaction with your  customers-to-be.

2) Put a unique phone number on your AdWords-landingpages (to make tracking ackurate, do only put this number on those pages, and do not let any other visitors find their way here).

Hi

I also faced this issue a while back and here is what I did,

1. I tracked if user came from adwords via url

2. If the user came from adwords then i showed user a form which he had to fill to get a discount cupon.

3. Every form was recorded in DB with simple incremental value, which was attached to coupon code to make every code uinique.

4. At the end of the month we tallied our Database with store DB to find out whats exact conversions and revenue.

I have not tried your cookie approach yet but sounds interesting and if the above solution doesnt work for you please elaborate on your cookie problem

The coupon method is the one we've implemented for now. Basically I attatch a cookie if I see them coming from an adwords ad. Then if the cookie is present a discount coupon button is presented to the customer on the site. The only issue is that we lose the information about what keyword they came from and how much that click actualy cost.

Hi There are 2 methods to actually get this data

1. You can set a custom variable in analytics and pull data for each lead using api and match it with each cupon code

http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2375447

2. you can set value track parameters for keyword and campaign related data but to match the cost data it wont work

hope this helps

It seems that now Google is offiering to upload the offline Conversion for DoubleClick Search.

I am not sure whether this service is available for all the products or not.
