Matched search query & Adwords keyword clicks discrepancy

Hi

On Monday, Analytics reported that "matched search query A" resulted in 7 visits. I then look at the same day in Adwords and the only keyword that could have been triggered for that matched search query has only 2 impressions and 0 clicks.

How is this possible?

Thanks

Anthony

Hi

I am guessing your accounts are autotagged. If that is the case then this might happen with following scenarios

1. User clicks on your ad and lands on yoursite.com/landingpage.html?gclid=abc1234

2. Next day user types yoursite.com and browser history leads him to yoursite.com/landingpage.html?gclid=abc1234 this will record visit in analytics from source=adwords, keyword=x & search query = y

There is another scenario which i am testing out and will updated in a while

Hope this helps

For Adwrds use the "search terms report" to find out which keyword triggered the ad.

There were no clicks on the ads for that day so there is nothing in the search terms report?

Correct; No clicks - no search queries will be shown on the report;

Hi Nik

Thanks for the explanation, that could very well be the answer.

Still, let me know about the other scenario.

Thanks again,

Anthony
