Impression numbers are 80% lower then day before? Is there a bug?

I run Adwords in the mortgage sector in Canada.

Between Tuesday and Thursday our impressions went from 2,500 to 750.  CTR is way up, CPC is steady so it feels like a bug...?

Lowerstrates,

Did you make any changes whatsoever?

Add negatives?   Change bids?

Are you using automatic or manual bidding?

Hi lowestrates and welcome to the forum.

"CTR is way up, CPC is steady so it feels like a bug...?"

Why would this make it seem like a bug?  If impressions go down then it's quite possible the CTR would go up since the two are mathematically linked and CPC is not influenced by the number of impressions at all.

How long has the Account been runnning?  Have the figures been stable before this?  For how long?  What is your Average Ad position and typical Quality Scores for your major Keywords?  Have these changed recently?

Hi Doug,

I haven't made any changes other then bids of course.  But my positions have not gone from #1 to #10 let's say.  My quality score remains excellent...  It just seems like either a bug or traffic has suddenly just dropped. I do manual bidding using a MAX CPC and then of course I monitor things very closely.

Hi Jon,

Yes, it is possible and is happening in our case -- whereis I am getting very similar number of clicks and even conversions, the lower impressions for no obvious reason is very odd.  My quality score or average position or CPC hasn't dropped or gotten worse by any means.

I haven't been running for that long really -- a few months but things had been steady until this recent drop.  My average ad position is between 1.8-3.5..  My quality score for the industry is good -- 4-5+  and nothing has changed...

I am starting to think maybe there was a spike in traffic our of the norm, which caused this massive increase.

Nothing I have done in my account or in how I am running things would lead to lower impressions, yet higher CTR, Conversions and Clicks.
