How long does it take for analytics data to appear in AdWords?

Hey there,

I have linked my Adwords and Analytics accounts about 1 1/2 days ago but I can still not. But when I select "Customize Columns" I can still not see the option "Google Analytics" to add bounce rates, time on site etc. to my view. Do I have to be patient or might I have done s.t. wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Jochen

Jocdhen S,
First lets make sure the accounts are Linked Up Correctly. Details below. Then some additional resources you can use in Analytics to quickly make decisions based on your data via Analytics Custom Dashboard.

"Customize Columns" I can still not see the option "Google Analytics" to add bounce rates, time on site etc. to my view

Customized Columns for Analytics will be at the Campaign Level, Ad Group Level and Keyword Level.

Make sure you have Synced Adwords to Analytics, and Analytics to Adwords.

In Adwords - Got to Account Setting - Liiked Accounts - Google Analytics
More on that Here:

In Analytics Make sure you Link Analytic to your Adwords account
Admin - In the Property View Level - Adwords Linking

I have noticed on average it's about 24 hours or so for Analytics Data to sync back to Adwords. I always make decisions based on Analytics First. The Data in Analytics from Adwords is about a 3 hour delay at most.

So all evaluation I use Analytics. Where it comes into play with Adwords is if you use a "Conversion Optimization" method of Bidding, and I have found that the sync in most of my accounts is so delayed that that method becomes an issue.

I use several different Customized Dash Boards in Analytics to pull in the Valuable Adwords metrics I need to view throughout the day.

Recommend sources are:
https://www.google.com/analytics/gallery/#landing/start/
and
http://www.dashboardjunkie.com/

I think these dashboards will help you with your evaluations as well and speed up your decision making process.

Hope this solves your issues as well as gives you insights into working with your data in a more efficient manner.

Thanks a lot for your help Eric. i had forgotten one step in the linking of the accounts and now I can see the columns.
Would you happen to know how AdWords treats the times before the Analytics data was available in terms of reporting. For example are all clicks that can't be matched againt Analytics data "bounces" or are they all "no bounces"?

Jochen

Joceum,

Good questions. There would more then likely be "No Data".
Check in Analytics to see if the "all traffic" is reporting the Google / CPC data prior to the sync. I know the Acquisitions > Adwords would be void of data, but not sure if the GLID would pass that info to all the traffic stats data. ( I think it does- but don't have any examples to check that are not synced).

There would be no data in the Adwords until it was synced.

Also "Bounce" in the traditional sense is not a great indicator, because of the way sessions are recorded. If the end user, doesn't take another page view or interaction, then the bounce is 100% regardless if there time on site was 1 second or 1 hour.
