In December, a future client found me through AdWords. You didn't catch it. But, I don't understand how you would have known unless they told you.

Hi Warren,

The short answer is that when someone clicks on a Google ad a cookie is set, with info including which keyword was searched for and which ad copy was clicked on. And when a conversion code on your site is triggered, it reads the data from the cookie and reports back to AdWords.

she went thru my website to fill out a form. So, she should have been
caught, right? Or, is it more complicated than that?
thanks.

Hi Warren,

With forms, conversion tracking works best if there is a thank you page. If you have placed AdWords conversion code on the thank you page, the conversion should be recorded.

If the form is hosted by a 3rd-party, for example someone who runs your email newsletters, it would be more complicated.
