How can I differentiate between two event conversion tags on the same page?

I've developed a landing page for a local event that has a link to a sign up newsletter and a link to a third party online store where purchases can be made. I would like to add conversion tracking to both links and developed two conversions for each event:

1. Clicking link to purchase
2. Clicking sign up button for newsletter.

Each of them creates a unique conversion label but the event added to the sign up botton or link calls the same class making me worry that both conversions will be marked if only one of them is realized. From the instructions: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6331304?hl=en&authuser=0

<a onclick="goog_report_conversion ('http://example.com/your-link')"
href="http://example.com/your-link">Download now!</a>

Any work around with this? Or will they be tracked differently regardless?

Thanks!

An easier way to do this would be to use event tracking through Google Tag Manager... take a look at that option.
