Help on Tracking Conversion Sales from Different Domain with iframe

Hi guys. I need help on how can I track sales conversion. My clients' travel package site uses an iframe on its booking page to display the booking details coming from a different domain. The successful transaction page or booking confirmation page is also displayed using iframe coming from that different domain.

Example: http://creativeholidays.com/getDetails.aspx?pageTitle=BONUS+night+in+Cairns&pageURL=http://bookings....

Are there any ways that I can track the conveions and how?

Please help

Hey Entog,

You should set a "redirct" back to your domain at the end of the buying process...

Good Luck,

Asaf

Hi Asaf,

What do you mean when you said "redirect"?

Hey Entog,

You can read more about "redirect" in this wikipedia page, but I think I've found a better solution for you in this thread written Pete.

Cheers,

Asaf

Hi Asaf,

I don't think the solution on the thread you mentioned will work on my end. The url stays the same for all steps in booking process up to the confirmation page and its only the data inside the iframe that changes and not the page.

Hello entog,

As per Google's books, you need to implement the conversion tracking code within the HTML of the frame which contains the conversion page.

Just a thought!

Here is a link to a conversion tracking guide which may have some info to help https://static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/www.google.com/en/us/intl/en_us...

You can also setup a button to track conversions "on click" if that click is the final process of booking:  http://blog.vkistudios.com/index.cfm/2008/12/16/JavaScript-onClick-Google-AdWords-Conversion-Trackin...

Hi entog,

I gather you own and control both sites. That's good. If that is not correct, this might be a little more difficult to do.

The key to tracking conversion on a third party site (which is what you are doing) lies in the Analytics code. If you are not using Google Analytics on both sites this won't work.

Ok, first thing is to add a domain definition to both websites. My example uses the older synchronous code:

try {
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-xxxxxx-x");
pageTracker._setDomainName("none");
pageTracker._setAllowLinker(true);
pageTracker._trackPageview();
} catch(err) {}

 Note the _setDomainName() set the domain to "none". This is important.

I've made another assumption here that may not be correct. Does the order originate on your advertised site, or does it originate within the iFrame? I'm assuming the order originates on the advertised site. On the advertised site, use forms with post method to start the order process. The form tag should loo like this:

<form name=myForm action="https://www.example.com/cart.pl?additem" method=post onsubmit="pageTracker._linkByPost(this)">

  Hope this helps.

Best of Luck!

Pete
