Conflicting information given by Tag Assistant

Last weekend I set up Google Remarketing and started to see increases to my list size.

I didn't add the remarketing code to all my web pages because I don't have access to all my web pages.

However, yesterday I noticed the message in Adwords, "We haven't detected a tag on your website.".  I used Tag Assistant to help diagnose the problem.  Tag Assistant says the remarketing tags are "working".  Working is in a gold / yellow color which means there is a "minor" problem.  I haven't been able to fix this issue yet.

My questions are:

  1. Why am I receiving the "We haven't detected a tag on your website" message but yet Tag Assistant says its "working"?
  2. Why did my list size initially increase? It seems the remarketing tag was detected and was working and then stopped for some reason.  I made no changes to the tags after I added them.

Thanks.

Hi Katie,

Can you let me know your site's URL so I can take a peek at the code?

Hi Katie,

I'm seeing what you're seeing on the Tag Assistant, in terms of you having a minor error. I would go ahead an fix that [CDATA] error, as I have seen that cause issues in the past with remarketing lists populating.

I'm going to go ahead and escalate your account to of our specialists so that they can look into your specific account and see what the issue is. They'll be in touch via email.

Hello there, I'm having the same issue. Tag Assistant says my codes are working, but under AdWords , the message appears "We haven't detected a tag on your website."

Hi Breachelle,

In looking at Tag Assistant for your site, it looks like you may have a non-standard implementation of the remarketing tag. This is a little hard for us to troubleshoot because we always recommend users set the remarketing tag exactly as it's set up in their account. If it's not set up in that way, we might not be able to figure out the issue.

Can you go back to your account and ensure the tag on your site matches the tag provided to you in your account exactly? If it does, and you're still having issues with your list size growing, let me know.

Also, when you make remarketing code changes on your site, give your list 24 hours to start growing. Just a tip!

Thanks. I look forward to hearing what the specialists find.

In the meantime, I'll try to fix the CDATA error. I'm having difficulty fixing it because when I update the code, the website automatically makes a change to the code.

I'll probably need to contact the web hosting company to learn why it is doing that.

Hello coco, the list size has updated to 72...but the same "we could not detect tag" notice is still showing.

Hi Coco,

I hope you don't mind me asking but I am having exactly the same problem across our two sites. It looks okay in Tag Assistant but Adwords says "We haven't detected the AdWords tag on your website". Could you offer any help?

www.eye-sale.com
www.eyewearconcierge.com

(The both run from the same server with the same adwords account)

I am also having exactly this problem. Tag assistant gives me a yellow "minor" issue ("ref/URL GET param did not match with actual url" - I have no idea what this means, perhaps because there is a redirect in place?)

The remarketing pane says "We haven't detected the AdWords tag on your website". The tag has been present for weeks, but the list is not populating.
