Combining MSN & Google adwords tracking code giving faulty results.

Hi Friends,

A new web account completion page is the same page which loads after a login by an existing user. We have added a condition in the original "Google Adwords - Conversion tracking code" to track the URL parameter for new account registration conversion and the login to the same page by an existing user separately, as we do not have server side scripting. Thus we have made few other changes in the code, but tracking results are not accurate. How can we avoid this? - Screenshot for reference

Hi Barath m,

Neither of the screen shot links work. How are the tracking results not accurate. Can you post the code with the changes you made? I will take a look to see if it all looks right.

An alternative is to send new users to a different "thank you" page before sending them to the login page.

Best of Luck!

Hi Petebardo,

Thanks for responding.
This is the original code -

<img height="1" width="1" style="border-style:none;" alt="" src="//www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/972288895/?value=1.00&currency_code=EUR&label=Fcp...

This is the modified code where the URL parameter is being tracked.

The MSN tracking code has also been added into the google adwords tracking code using a <if> condition.

There is no separate 'Thank you' page to track the conversion and that is the reason we track the URL parameter instead of the usual method.

Hi Bharath,

Code looks ok. It's not quite how I do it, but close. What's happening that makes results inaccurate?

You won't get conversion data from folks using browsers with Javascript disabled because you haven't include the noscript portion of the code. Without server side scripting, this is probably your only option.

The way our script works to segment our remarketing lists is I declare all the variables first with no value. Then I test for gclid, much the same way you test for GOAL in the url. If I find the gclid, I then assign values for all variables to match the conversion code as provided by AdWords.

I noticed you are only assigning a value the google_conversion_id. That should work, but you might also consider assigning the google_conversion_label value as well. It's hard to tell without knowing more about why you think the results are inaccurate.

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your suggestion. We will try assigning the google_conversion_label value too.

Another question - Adding msn scipts in between Google conversion code will not create issues?

Hi Bharath,

MSN and Google are careful with their scripts to assign uniquely named variables that shouldn't cause a conflict. But I'm not familiar with all the background processing so I can say for certain. I would recommend keeping the AdWords conversion code block and the MSN block separate, if for no other reason than to make it easier to maintain.
