Change gclid parameter name

Hi. I'm using google AdWords to advertise CPA offers. As a promoter I want to track conversions. To make it possible I need to collect gclid parameters of users that converted. For some strange reasons these CPA networks that I work with cannot handle gclid parameter. They can handle parameters with their special names as subid, tracking_id etc. So I need to pass gclid value by another parameter name (subid, tracking_id etc.). Is it possible?

Hi,

The only way I can think of to accomplish this would be to have the click go to your own website, change the name of the gclid parameter to subid, then forward the click to the appropriate website. This could be done a few different ways. If your website runs Apache, you can use a rewrite rule. If you're running IIS, you may need a server side script to accomplish the redirect. Or you could use Javascript on the page to update the location.

Javascript would look something like this:
cProtocol = "https://"
cDomain = " cpantw.com";
cPath = "";
cSearch=document.location.search.replace('gclid','subid');
document.location = cProtocol+cDomain+cPath+cSearch;

You will need to provide the proper data for cDomain and cPath.

Best of Luck!

Well, there are CPA networks. They have list of offers. Offer example: you get your personal link that redirects user that click on it to for example an online flower shop. When user buys flowers on that store, you get a reward. Example of link: cpantw.com?uid=12345&offerid=6789.

HI
So I am guessing your workflow will be
Adwords Click >> Land on your page with GCLID >> Click on a link on your page >> redirected via an affiliate network to some other website .
Is this how it works?
and if yes do you want to pass GCLID from your page to the other page?

Not exactly. AdWords click -> CPA Network page with gclid (cpantw.com?uid=12345&offerid=6789&gclid=5777533) --redirect--> flowersstore.com.

I want google to pass gclid value by subid parameter name. I want this: AdWords click -> cpantw.com?uid=12345&offerid=6789&subid=5777533

Hi
1. I am not sure if this is policy violation or not @MosheTLV can you comment.

2. Google Cant pass GCLID in any other parameter you will have to work with your affiliate network to make them pass this to the sellers site.

3. Even if they pass this ID to sellers site how do you plan to capture the same on successful completion of a lead?

1) it must be not. As I already work with CPA networks with AdWords . Though I cannot track conversions. What policy rule do you think it may violate?
2) that's sad. Sad because CPA networks support cannot understand what I want them to do.
3) when user makes a purchase, CPA network sends POST http request that I provide to them with subid parameter value. The value that was assigned to link when user clicked the ad. In that way I can collect subids parameters of users that converted.

I see. Thank you, Pete.

I think, I'll do it with PHP on Apache.
