Call Extensions - Unexpected Conversions In Report

Hi,

We recently setup call extensions which do not use a special Google forwarding number, it just uses the normal office number.  We expected to see the number of clicks in the ad extensions report in Adwords, but we are confused as to why we are also seeing conversions.  Does the conversion mean that those people actually called the number?

The Adwords account has a conversion setup to track a thank you URL for normal text ads however I assume this isn't related.

Thanks

Hi Steven,
Welcome to AdWords Community.

As you say you aren't using Google forwarding number so this is the issue of conversion tracking installation. please make sure you are not paid for this conversions.

If you use your office phone number, so this conversion not for call.

Hope you got the idea. thank you.

Hi Steven,

You can segment your reports by conversion name or category - this will show you exactly which conversion is being reported on.

Hi Tommy,

I have looked at the call extensions conversion name and the conversion name showing is the one we setup for the view of a key page on the website. If someone is clicking the call extension on the ad, surely they will have not surfed around the site first before going back to the search engine and clicking to call? Very confused!

Thanks

Hi Steven,

Clicks reported do not mean clicks on ad extensions, per se. You can also segment by click type. Please read this page in its entirety to understand better the data you're reviewing and how to properly segment your reports. https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2454049?hl=en - especially, expand the section on "Here's what the columns on the ad extensions tab show"
