Benchmark Type in 'Analyze Competition' Report

Hello,

I am doing a competitive analysis. In the Opportunities Tab, there is a tool called 'Competitive Analysis' which shows you how you perform compared to similar advertisers in the category. I just want to make sure than when you download the report, does advertiser in benchmark type show data about myself and similar advertisers shows data about the others? And bottom of range shows lowest statistic within my range of all advertisers?

Moreover, can I download a report that shows me the competitive data of all campaigns segmented by country instead of having to download an individual report for each country? Can I download a report of the best performing keywords of all categories instead of doing it for each subcategory individually?

Thank you!

Hi there Curious,

I've escalated this issue to a specialist who can comment more. They should post an update soon.

Let's wait until then,

Hello,

It’s great to hear you are exploring into some of the reports featured in the Opportunities Tab! I am happy to help clarify some of the metrics reported in the ‘Analyze Competition’ section of the Opportunities Tab. The benchmark type column primarily refers to the competitive range at which advertisers fall.

Below you will find an outline of each of the categories listed under the column titled benchmark type:

  • Advertiser: reporting specific to your AdWords search campaigns
  • Similar Advertisers: narrower set of advertisers who performed in the same range as you did
  • Top of Range: advertisers falling in the top segment of the performance distribution
  • Bottom of Range: advertisers falling in the lowest segment of the performance distribution

At this time, there isn’t a way to download the report for all campaigns and segment by country, so you would have to download multiple reports for all campaigns by country. For best performing keywords, you would have to download these also at a subcategory level.

Here’s an article from our AdWords Help Center which helps interepret the information featured in this report: http://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2404205/?hl=en&from=180930&rd=1

As you are working on your competitive analysis, I would also recommend looking at the impression share report and auction insights. I hope this information helps. If you are able to define your ultimate goal with this competitive analysis, I may be able to direct you to a report within AdWords which may be a bit more actionable. Feel free to respond to the post if you have any further questions!

Happy Analyzing,
Juliana S.
