Auto-tagging and Manual tagging together

Hi

I am currently using auto tagging so when someone clicks on an ad my website serves up a specific telephone number on the landing page. This is utm_source=gclid.

We now want to expand this so 8 of my campaigns has its own telephone number and have set up utm_source=skiholiday etc; and the other 10 use the number we use for =gclid. Do I have to add these as manual tagging? Can i run both as manual and automatic together?

Or do I just have to manual tag the who account?

Thanks for the help

Hi Hannah B,

Yes, you can use auto-tagging and manual tagging together. There is a 1024 character limit to the length of the query string, including the gclid. As long as you don't go over that, it will work as you expect.

I would caution you against using the utm_ tags in a non standard way if you are using Google Analytics. That could result in double reporting. utm_source usually will usually be "CPC", "Google CPC", "Facebook CPM", etc. Use utm_campaign instead, or make up your own variable names to identify which phone number you wish to display so it doesn't interfere with GA tracking.

Best of Luck!

Hi Hannah,

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Select auto-tagging in your account setup, then add the manual tagging to your t racking template.
