Auto tagging & Manual Campaign tracking conflict

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for your time! Apologies if there is a definite answer for this, i couldnt see a comprehensive one.

I've inherited an account where the Adwords and Analytics are all linked up with auto tagging however the destination URLs being used are also manually tagged up with UTM params (utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Adwords).

Does this mean there will be a duplication of stats in the Analytics with clicks from these ads being counted under two different sources? Google Adowrds and Google cpc?

Thanks again,

Matt

Hi Matt,

The best option to keep track of AdWords data in Google Analytics is to use auto tagging feature where Analytics will automatically start tracking your AdWords campaigns data and include that in the interface.

Certainly it is not recommended to use both at the sametime (i.e. auto tagging and manual tagging for AdWords).

In case your URLs doesn't support auto tagging feature, then only you should be going for manual tagging.

Hi there pankaj,

Thanks for your reply, what do you think in regards to my question?

Does this mean there will be a duplication of stats in the Analytics with clicks from these ads being counted under two different sources? Google Adowrds and Google cpc?

Cheers,
