Asynchronous conversion tracking

Hi, I'm hoping someone has done this before...

Here's the situation:

  • We have a recurring subscription model
  • We can easily track the first purchase conversion, because it happens on the web site. We'll just use the conversion tracking pixel.
  • A month later, however, a subscription might automatically recur, and we want to track that and attribute the purchase to the campaign that originally referred the purchaser. This happens as a background task, and so the conversion tracking pixel is not an option here.

How can we track this type of offline, asynchronous conversion?

Note: Our Adwords and Analytics accounts are linked, and we already record purchase data in Analytics using Google Measurement Protocol. Would passing a GCLID to the GA purchase hit pass that data along to AdWords somehow?

Thanks.

Good question. You can try and upload offline conversions, but this is not a straight forward process.
