Adwords tag custom variable specific report.

Hi,

I am actually using adwords for remarketing.

Dynamically adding a custom variable to the tag on the website in order to create audiences based on this custom variable and display specific ads to these people (by creating a remarketing list on the audience) .

the way i set the variable :

(new Image()).src=(location.protocol=='https:'?'https:':'http:')+'//googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/viewthroughconversion/XXXXXXXX/?value=0&guid=ON&script=0&data.myVar=MY_VALUE'

This way i can split the audience based on the value of this variable.

Now i want to get reports based on this variable (number of impression and clicks on/from people with a cookie containing myVar= MY_VALUE_1 ) .

Can i do this with adwords ? i also have an access to the api .

Thanks.

Hi Akli
I didn't realize that you wanted to break out single audiences by custom variables like that. It's not possible as far as I know, and it won't be possible inside AdWords.

The most granular you can get is with custom columns https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/3073556?hl=en but you can only create your own columns based on existing segments and not ones you've created using your own custom variables.

Hi Akli
If you're building an audience with this custom parameter, why not just get reports on the audience itself? If you're using it in more than one ad group, you can simply tag it with a label and report on that. You're either making this more complicated than it needs to be or I'm not fully understanding this?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your answer.

Yes i can get reports on the audience itself .
But i want a reporting based on every value of my custom var :
For example : i have an audience with the rule ' myVar= MY_VALUE_1 OR MY_VALUE_3 OR MY_VALUE_5 OR MY_VALUE_X' this way i can reach the minimum list size to start displaying ads. When i build an ad group on this audience i want to know :
8000 impressions: 4000 on MY_VALUE_2, 3000 on MY_VALUE_3 and 1000 on MY_VALUE_X
Same report for the clicks.

I checked the documentation and the forums and it seems like all the reporting is done by steps and is only based on the 'strong' default rules that are provided by google (a rule based on a custom var can't be trusted)

I don't think it's possible to get that level of reporting details.

Thank you for your time . Smiley Happy
