Adwords data (not set) - gclid being dropped?

I am having a similar issue to many on Google discussions where our gclid appears to keep getting dropped due to a 301 redirect (http > https) on the site so Adwords data is coming through to analytics as (not set).

I tested whether the gclid gets dropped from destination URL's as suggested however & they did not drop the gclid. I have also set all of my destination URL's with https.

I found a similar issue in this discussion - are any of these points worth exploring > https://www.en.adwords-community.com/t5/Tracking-Reporting/page-is-dropping-or-altering-the-gclid-pa...

Any suggestions on what I need to speak with my developer about in order to get around this?

Thanks

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the AdWords Community. Thanks for posting your first question here. We are happy to help. While (not set) has been a technical issue on and off, this one seems to be specific to your or a few accounts. I'm going to send you an email to get a little more information about your account and may be a Analytics specialist will also be reaching out to you.

Thanks,
Mini

Hi Matt,

To throw some light on this, if the GCLID parameter drops the resulting data collected by GA would not be (not set) but direct traffic. Not set still means that GA is identifying the session from Google/cpc but nothing else. If the GCLID drops it doesn't recognize anything and puts it in direct traffic.

If the GCLID is not getting dropped there shouldn't be any issue with the tracking. If your URLs are however not compatible with GCLID its better to switch off auto-tagging and use manual tags to track your site data from PPC.

Thanks for the response Ishan.

For example the data I am getting in Acquisition > Channels > Paid Search = (not set), but showing me accurate number of sessions, bounce rate (e.g 35%), Time On Site (e.g. 4min30) & pages per session.

However in Adwords > Campaigns, it is showing me the correct Campaign Name > Ad Group > Keywords (all detailed & correctly identified), but it says 0 sessions, 0% bounce rate, 0 time on site etc.

So you believe that it is not the 301 redirect (http > https) that is causing this?

I have also had almost all of my ads 'Disapproved' for 'Invalid HTTP Response' in the last 48 hours - these were initially working of course. Are these two issues linked - does this shed any light?

Thanks for your time
