Hello,
I am trying to set up a Conversion Action in Adwords for my Shopify store. I have added the generated code in Adwords to an "additional scripts" section in my cart in the Shopify admin settings.
But when I use the Google Tag Assistant it says that the tag is implemented improperly, and I chatted with Google support and indicated it needs to be placed within the <body><body> tags.
Has anyone had any experience with this issue? I have been unlucky finding answers in Shopify as well as with Google support. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
The best way is to connect your Shopify account to Google Analytics. I do this almost daily at it works as it should.
The official info is a little bit out-of-date but you should be able to work it out

I'm brand new to this (Today!) @RobSkelton, and I would love to learn more from you!.
We have a new client who uses shopify, and they too added the AdWords conversion code to the "additional scripts" in the Checkout (?) settings. Clearly, that didn't work. It looks like that code is triggered at the review (?) stage of the purchase funnel, before an actual purchase confirmation takes place(?). In their case, adding the conversion code to the additional scripts "worked", in terms of some conversions reporting in AdWords, but it way over-counted the actual sales.
They do have ecommerce, and goals for form/sales submissions. Both are accurate-ish (a couple of transactions get dropped somehow), but, all the transactions/goals are reporting as internal referrals. I got all the access, and I added the website, shopify, and paypal as referral exclusions in analytics as the shopify documentation suggests. This all happened today, the sales are very few and far between, and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Am I on the right track? Is there anything else that you could recommend checking, or doing differently than the official shopify documentation? I assume if @Aaron H wants to try the analytics route, he may have some similar questions/concerns. I know shopify questions pop up in the Google forums fairly often, it would be great if we could have an expert in this area to turn to.

If you are still trying to add to the shopping cart the code that Adwords generates from you there are some changes that you will have to make to it. I finally had to contact support and they helped me by adding a few lines to the tag and now it's working (presumably). I tested it and the Google Tag Assistant indicated that the script ran.
Just contact the Adwords support, they had to refer me to a specialist or a tier 2 support rep.

Thanks for the information. I'll give that a shot. I tried something like that yesterday and I got some conversion data, but I don't know if that is because of my Adwords Campaigns or just because people are navigating to my store's shopping cart. I clearly need to research more on how Adwords works vs Google Analytics.
