Adwords, Conversion Tracking Code, Google Apps/Google Sites

Hello.

Forgive me if I'm overlooking a great post on this solution, but I'm failing miserably with some good posts that may have dated information.

  • I have Google Apps and using the built-in [Google] Sites.
  • I have a funtional PayPal button that lands on a ThankYou page upon conversion.
  • I am failing, miserably, at embedding the Adwords Conversion Tracker Code into my ThankYou page.
  • I have attempted some typical Custom Gadget code and receive .
  • I don't know what a jquery is and I do not have good code samples to figure it out.
  • I prefer Adwords Coversion Tracking for Pay Per Conversion option, but I am not interested in Analytics Conversion Tracking.

Can someone please point me in the right direct?  Smiley Happy

Thanks, so much!

Hi Jason,

Thanks for posting!

Just to clarify, with your website are you able to access and edit the source code of your website? If you can, then I'd recommend copying your conversion tracking code from your AdWords account and pasting it unchanged between the between the <body></body> tags of the Thank You page. This should implement the code correctly.

If you're still having trouble with that, please let the Community know what's happening in a little more detail and we'll try and help you out.

Hi Alys, Thanks for the reply. ( I am the original poster ).

I am using "Google Apps" which is hosting a lot like "Google Sites" (old google pages).

I can format content & aesthetics with templates, but I do not have access to the body tags.

Since Adwords and Google Apps (hosting) were both google products, I believe the Adwords conversion tracking should be able to be added *somehow*. lol..

I have read of others using Apps Gadget Script to accomplish this, but it's a bit above my ability, yet.

Once the code works as a Google Gadget, then people add the gadget to their Google Apps site (Google Sites).

Hope this makes sense.

Hi there,

It looks like there has been an ongoing discussion about this issue for a little while about using conversion tracking on Google Sites and it doesn't look like these two features are too compatible at the moment I'm afraid.

I know from your previous post you weren't keen to use Analytics to track your conversions, but I think this is the only way this will be possible at th moment. If you can't access the script tags of your site, you won't be able to use conversion tracking code, but you could turn on Analytics tracking for your site and use this to track your conversions.

Hope this makes things a little clearer!

Yeah, I've been on this for days.. there must be a work around.

** If I wish to have Pay Per Converstion then it MUST be through Adwords.. Correct? **

There are multiple folks who claim to have succeeded using "Custom Gadget" code.. but they have not shared the entire successful code.. I hope to find this work around.

I wish to have Pay Per Converstion through Adwords Smiley Happy

Hi there,

Thanks for clarifying. If you're wanting to pay per conversion and use features like ECPC and CPA bidding you would need some data on your Converstions tab in your AdWords account.

You could try building the gadget if you can get some info on that, but also importing goals from Analytics would provide the info on your Conversions tab in your account that you would need.

Has anyone else in the Community had a similar sitaution to this?

Hello, Alys.

As you stated, the proper way is to link Analytics with Adwords..

There are lots of steps required to complete this. Then within 48hrs or less the conversion data is shared between the products. Hope I see the results I expect in the next 48hrs.

I figure-out the gadget script, too, but it's not a good solution for various reasons.. biggest reason is the default gadget confirmation required of the visitor that i'm asking them to "Click to Authorize" a script (could appear mysterious).

Google Sites does not support the code needed for AdWords conversion tracking directly, but it does support google Analytics, so...
You can "Import" google Analytics "Goals" (such as loading a ThankYou page) back over to AdWords and then use it as a Conversion... the more helpful links include:
