disapproved for invalid http response code for my display URL

the display URL is my website. I am not super tech savvy and I cannot see anything to fix. I do not understand conversations/solutions referencing "auto tagging" I don't think I could be auto tagging anything sense I don't know what that is. Do I need a web developer to look for a solution?

Hi Renee,

Welcome to AdWords Community!

Ads being disapproved for 'invalid http response code' means your ad's landing page leads to an error page. As per Google's policy, your ads should lead to a working page. Please ensure you've entered the right destination URL in the ad's destination URL field (copy paste is the best) and ensure that the page is always functional. More info on this policy here.

Hope this helps!

Hi Renee,

If the landing page appears to work, there can be a programming error. The server send some error code but still sends the page to the browser. There can be many reasons for that and if this is indeed the case, you need to speak with a programmer.

Hello Renee

Welcome to the AdWords Community.

I believe that when you enter your URL directly in the browser, it takes you to a working page. But when you insert the Same URL in the Ads, the ads are getting disapproved, right?

If so, Please Click on the Gear Icon at the Top right of the account, then select the Preferences Option from the Drop-down and see if the Auto-Tagging setting is enabled or disabled. If Auto-Tagging is enabled then it is a known issue and you can fix it.

In case you have Auto-Tagging turned ON, then your URLs, when your ads get clicked, get transformed into something like somepage.html?gclid=1234, or somepage.html?parameter=value&gclid=1234.

If your website does not support them (the additional parameters that are added), it will return a 404. When checking your destination URLs, you did not include gclid and therefore the URLs worked just fine.

Take one of the destination URLs of your ads and see if it still works after appending ?gclid=1234 or ?gclid=test to it. If it doesn't, either disable Auto-Tagging or make sure the website can deal with the gclid parameter by consulting your website designer.

Hope this Helps.

Hi Renee,

It might help to get your webmaster check the destination URLs for HTTP Status codes. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/40132

It should be an easy fix to eliminate the problem altogether.

Thanks,
Shruti

Hey, a good place to start the troubleshooting is to check your landing page with the developer tools or some debugging extension (chrome and firefox has built in features for this) and check the "net" or "network" tab for http response issues.
