When will AdWords shutdown the "Download" buttons ad spammers?

We currently have about 281 scam sites in our AdSense block list, which was successfully approved by AdWords. They register their sites every day. All of their ads look like "Download", "Get", and "Start" buttons. When you click on these ads, you get a toolbar, a Trojan, and on mobile phones you get a game about dragons.

All of their ads are irrelevant and look like a big scam. I don't understand how they can be approved by AdWords.

Question. When will this SCAM & SPAM be stopped?

Ads looks like these:

Can't be strong enough in my support for this post. These adverts are ruining the sites of AdSense publishers. They rely on people mistaking the ad for content which the site is offing and clicking on them in error. I don't even really see how they comply with AdWords Policies where the advertiser must make it clear what their advert is about.

The only way to get rid of them at the moment is to turn of image ads which seems to be the direct opposite of what AdSense wishes us to do.

Please either get rid of them totally or (assuming you won't be willing to do that) work with AdSense to ensure they all go in their own category which can then be blocked.

Many of these ads lead to installations of "unsafe" software which only decreases the trust users have in both our websites and AdSense Ads generally.

These spammers are smart. They also have text-ads, which looks like: "Start Download" text link.

Just a feedback from a corner of the planet : I can't say I have seen these in my AdSense which I manually check from time to time, but I congratulate you for finding this out.

I'll pay more attention to what silly ads are appear in my sites from now on. Is there a list from where we can see exactly what sites used AdWords to advertise in our placement in a month for example ?

Hi Mark, the simple truth is that Google do shut down bad Ads - hundreds of thousands every day; in 2012, 224 billion Ads were disabled.  Take a look at the figures in this Google blog post:

http://adwords.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/ads-security-2012-retrospective.html

The problem is that as fast as Google shuts these Ads and sites down, more are created and the people generating these Ads get smarter at avoiding the detection systems.  Google has to make sure their detection systems don't unduly impact legitimate advertisers and they have to implement these systems at massive scale.

Pointing at a list as evidence that Google does nothing is like pointing at a single crime and saying the police don't catch criminals or using one sick person to demonstrate that doctors don't cure illnesses.  Fighting bad ads is not something that can be done in a single step overnight, never to be problem again; it's a continual battle.

I agree with Cobnut's argument. In the same vein, I also encourage Mark and all the other community members to report any advertiser who violate or use scam on their Adwords/Adsense accounts.

I'm sure that AdWords support can find all spam accounts by searching similar "big download" ad images. I don't know, why AdWords support don't do this. Ok, I will continue report here about fresh spammers if you don't want to do this job.

This "israel account" every day post new spam ads. Google support, can you chek this adwords account? Can you stop this spammer?

Hi Mark, you've kind of missed the point of my last post.  It's not that Google don't search for spammers and don't have the tools to do their work, it's that the fight is never-ending and it's inevitable that you'll see new violations appear as fast as the old ones are shut down.

If you want to report bad Ads, Google are more than happy to receive your reports but this Community is not the right place.  Google has a specific form for reporting feedback on AdWords Ads - including options to report exactly the sort of violation you're describing.  It's here:

https://support.google.com/adwords/contact/feedback
