I want to use my OWN in-house tracking platform...

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Hello,

I want to use my own in-house tracking platform to track my ad, keyword and conversion data. From what I've heard, it is against the policy to use my tracking link as my destination URL EVEN If it immediately redirects the prospect to the actual display URL.

How can I use my own tracking platform. I do NOT want to use the Google Tracking Tool.

Thanks for your help,

Hello there;

Destination URL (after all redirects) MUST meet display URL . This is the rule;

Hello, that is exactly what I was doing before but Google suspended my account. When I spoke with support, they said they suspended it because of my Destination URL.

I now have my account re-instated, but they told me to only use the same domain in my display URL as my destination.

An example:

Display URL: mywebsite.com

Destination URL: trackingsite.com (redirect to)

Final Destination: mywebsite.com

Thanks.

We might be using the wrong terminology;...Smiley Surprised

The destination URL is the URL that loads when a user clicks your ad. The landing page URL is where users actually end up after passing through any redirects associated with your destination URL. If the destination URL doesn't redirect, the destination URL and landing page URL are the same thing.

Read the tutorial about destination URL;

Nope. Correct terminology and I even provided an example.

My display URL is mywebsite.com. My destination URL is the URL of my tracking solution. It redirects instantly to my display URL as it should.

However, as I said before, when I spoke with support, they said they suspended my account because of my Destination URL.

Direct from the email I received from Google:
"I can see that you have used url [edited for privacy] for tracking clicks which is not banned in our system. As you have mentioned in your earlier email that you have that you have added the tracking url. However you have added this in a wrong place and this caused for a suspension, as its a violation of our URL policies."

Thanks.

I should add that the tracking URL was in the "Destination URL" field, and the display and actual URL were both the same.

By saying "the actual URL" -  do you mean the landing page the user ended up?

I will ask a colleague who is a "tracking specialist " to join and comment.

Hi Craig, can we try and get some solid details here, I feel we're getting a bit lost (well, I am, certainly).

Can you confirm please:

1) What is your DISPLAY URL (you may use a substitute if you wish)

2) What is your DESTINATION URL (again, feel free to use a substitute, if necessary)

3) What POLICY has AdWords said that you've breached?

4) When you look at your Ads, what does it say when you hover over the "bubble" in the Status column?

5) Is your tracking site a known third-party provider, or something you've built yourself?

6) Have you physically tested this tracking site as working, directing to the correct domain as at #1 above?

I think it's important that we determine right away the precise reason for the suspension.  Differences between the Display and Destination URLs would normally result only in a disapproved Ad, not an Account suspension so I'm wondering if there is another reason for the suspension.  Note that it's possible to be suspended for more than one thing which may not be obvious from the emails you've received.

Is there any reason you can't share your real URL publicly?  It would be useful for us to view your landing page to rule out these potential other factors.  If you wish to share it only with me privately, please do so via my profile.

Jon, all of these questions have been answered above already except 4) which is not applicable because the account was completely suspended and campaign deleted and 5) and 6) which is a third-party platform that has been tested extensively. I've been using it for over 5 years on Yahoo and Bing.

Display URL mywebsite.com
Destination URL: mytrackingsite.com
Policy Breached: "URL Policy" <--- according to Google Adwords Support

I don;t know how many times I can keep repeating this stuff.

Moshe - yes, actual URL is landing page user ended up. lol
